| I love this man. He's composed the soundtracks for Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love, Eternal Sunshine, and I heart Huckabess; oh yeah, did I mention his own solo album? He's probaly my favorite producer as well. Yeah, Jon Brion. |

| By the way, does anyone know where I can get the Brion produced version of Fionna Apple's new album? I've been thinking about that for awhile. |

| Sorry one N (in regards to Apple). Secondly, I don't have the sources to download things unlike other people. And lastly, saying that Brion made Smith more depressed is the most irrational thing. |

1. the fiona apple has been out for a good month now. you can get it at almost any store with cds.
2. He began recording a new album, this time with only himself and Jon Brion in the producer's chair, around 2001. The pair had recorded a substantial amount of songs, when Brion confronted Smith about his drug and alcohol abuse. [15] Their friendship promptly ended, and Smith scrapped all of their work up until that point. He later told an interviewer: "There was even a little more than half of a record done before this new one that I just scrapped because of a blown friendship with someone that made me so depressed I didn’t want to hear any of those songs. He was just helping me record the songs and stuff, and then the friendship kind of fell apart all of a sudden one day. It just made it kind of awkward being alone in the car listening to the songs." Hmm, I've been to many record stores in recent time and have found no "Brion produced" Apple album. The only version available to the public is the Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Eminem) version. I just checked amazon.com as well, no Brion produced copy. He has two tracks on the new album. Upon hearing that the Brion album was scrapped and the Elizondo version was hitting the streets, I had no interest in it. Fiona said the Brion version sounded too much like a "Jon Brion" album, so she picked a someone else and made another bland singer songwriter album. Matt Chamberlain(drummer) said the Brion arrangments were extremely difficult to play and would break new ground. Oh well.
As far as the Smith-Brion connection, it's ashame that a friendship ends and makes someone depressed even more so, when a friend is just trying to help. I've read many thins where Brion just didn't want to no longer be in the atmosphere of a junkie who had a fridge full of just ice cream and blew all his money on dope. I love Smith by the way, and I have had that article in which you quoted from in magazine form a year ago. |

i think the brion-produced fiona apple album was floating around the internet for a little while.
i have a burned copy of it. sadly, i'd have to say that the eventually-released version of the album is much better. i was quite disappointed. i didn't think jon brion could ever disappoint me. |

| It's ok, i'm just a geek with too much time on my hands to fuss over why Brion's version never came out. I heard Sony might still release it. Who knows. |

| Interesting, did the Brion version sound too "Beatles"? That man is quite obsessed with them and their production style. |

| it was wayyyyy too muddled and layered. for some tracks, you couldn't even hear the vocals properly. mind you, the tracks leaked to the internet weren't fully completed, so who knows how they were really "supposed" to sound had brion executed the album from start to finish. |

the jon brion version i have doesn't sound muddled.
the original was much better.i was really disappointed when i heard the released version.
and i doubt she'll release the original one. she seems pleased with the "official" version, from the interviews i've read. |
